Our Trip To Barberville

You may remember that I posted about the folk festival happening at the Barberville Settlement a few weeks ago. It was a blast!

If you have not been to Barberville, your whole family will love it. There are chickens, cows, donkeys, peacocks, and much more to see. Kids can go into a musical instrument “petting zoo” and try their hand at all kinds of musical instruments from banjos to drums to violins, or excuse me – - fiddles.

There is something going on every month and in the fall they have a big festival complete with workshops on how to make soap, pottery, baskets and more.

My five year old and I learned how to do some real “country dancing” with a room full of people. We showed up a little late so I’m not certain of the name of the dance, I just know it was FUN! My five year old sang, “Four in line down the hall!” for two days afterward.

I spoke with a beautiful and interesting 93 year old woman named Ethel in the schoolhouse building who actually graduated from high school there and attended school in that very same building. I can’t wait to go back and talk with her some more.

Here are some pictures of our day.
