Do you think these tests are an accurate picture? Do you believe that they are statistically valid?
We public school educators have long known that how a kid performs on a standardized test is not an accurate measure of their intelligence, potential, prior learning, or future learning ability. Neither is it a reliable snapshot of their current performance. So what is it an accurate picture of then? Why do so many place so much weight on the outcomes of these tests? Some going so far as to base public school teacher’s salaries on them?
There are a myriad number of reasons why standardized testing is not a valid assessment tool, and perhaps I’ll get into that some more another day. For now though, take a look at this article written by a man who made his living scoring standardized tests. It’s a real eye-opener.
Pass this along to anyone in your family who thinks your homeschooled kids should also be subjected to the stress and meaningless waste of their time, just like the public schooled kids.
